It’s primary season, as well as town election season, with state and national elections in November. This is our first chance to talk to one of the candidates. Co-host Matt Silber invited CT rep Josh Elliott, who is running for governor of Connecticut in the Democratic primary in August, to join us on Train Time. We were keen to get his perspective on public transportation and the role trains play (and could play) in Connecticut, as well as to ask about the transit policies he would prioritize as governor.
Josh has a lot to say about Connecticut finances, based on his experience as Deputy Speaker and Majority Caucus Co-Chair and as a member of the Finance, Revenue & Bonding Committee, the Public Health Committee, and the Judiciary Committee. We were also able to discuss the importance of governors in supporting rail restoration in our region.
We’ll try to get other candidates to join us, and if there’s someone you’d especially like to hear from, please drop us a line and we’ll see what we can do. The support of our Washington DC legislators is also vital.
In addition, here are clips from our interviews with former Massachusetts governor Deval Patrick, US congressman Richard Neal, and former state senator Eric Lesser, all of whom have been keen supporters of rail service.
Here’s how to find the transcript (in yellow), if you prefer to read an admittedly imperfect text instead of listening. You’ll see the Transcript link under every Train Time podcast. Look above for today’s episode.
